## What is the Medicaid Waiver Program?

Medicaid Waivers, also called Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers, are special state programs that allow people with disabilities, seniors, or those with chronic illnesses to receive care at home or in their community, instead of in a nursing facility or institution. Each state manages its own Medicaid Waiver programs, with unique eligibility rules, covered services, and application processes.

## Medicaid Waivers by State: A Quick Introduction

**Alabama:**
Alabama offers several waivers, including the Elderly and Disabled Waiver and the Intellectual Disabilities Waiver. Each supports different needs, from in-home care to respite and day services.
